Robotic mastectomy for invasive breast cancer was performed for the first time in the United States last year, but the move toward this surgical approach ground to a halt soon afterward. The first such operation was performed in September 2018 by Stephen Chagares, MD, at the Monmouth County Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.
